The Scottish Heritage Society's next Rhode Island Scottish Highland Festival is scheduled to take place in May 17, 2008 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Richmond, RI. This event is held rain or shine. As always SASRI will be setting up a booth at the festival and welcomes volunteers to help staff the tent. The Gathering 2009, Edinburgh will take place Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of July 2009 The Gathering 2009 will take the form of an international clan gathering and the largest highland games ever held in Scotland, and will be one of the key events of Homecoming Scotland. It is estimated that there will be over 80 clan tents, with around 7500 clan and Scottish association members from around the world. The Boston Scottish Fiddle Club (BSFC) meets October thru June on the first Sunday of the month at the Masonic Hall 1950 Massachusetts Ave.(one block north of Porter Square). Workshops run from 2 pm to 5 pm, and our open session is from 5:30 to 7:00.Ê The workshop focuses on beginners between 2 pm and 3 pm, and intermediate players between 3 pm and 5 pm.Ê The workshop leader often gives a short, half-hour performance following the workshop.Ê After refreshments, we have an open session, playing from our session book or past tunes that we've learned, between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm or later. Admission for non-members was $3 for either the afternoon or evening, or $5 for the whole day (be sure to call first to see if that's changed).
